Particle Generation with Liquid Carbon Dioxide Emulsions

چکیده

Spray drying is a common technique for particle generation. However, due to limitations in the droplet size, production of solid submicron particles using conventional atomizers has proven be challenging. With aim overcoming this limitation, generation and expansion emulsions an aqueous solution liquid carbon dioxide with subsequent step was investigated. Potassium chloride concentrations between 0.1 10 wt. % mass loads disperse phase 0.01 0.09 were used order study their impact on size. For lowest potassium concentration, median diameters size range measured all phase.

Encapsulated liquid sorbents for carbon dioxide capture.

Drawbacks of current carbon dioxide capture methods include corrosivity, evaporative losses and fouling. Separating the capture solvent from infrastructure and effluent gases via microencapsulation provides possible solutions to these issues. Here we report carbon capture materials that may enable low-cost and energy-efficient capture of carbon dioxide from flue gas. Polymer microcapsules compo...

Stability of dense liquid carbon dioxide.

We present ab initio calculations of the phase diagram of liquid CO(2) and its melting curve over a wide range of pressure and temperature conditions, including those relevant to the Earth. Several distinct liquid phases are predicted up to 200 GPa and 10,000 K based on their structural and electronic characteristics. We provide evidence for a first-order liquid-liquid phase transition with a c...

Limestone-particle-stabilized macroemulsion of liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide in water for ocean sequestration.

When liquid or supercritical CO2 is mixed with an aqueous slurry of finely pulverized (1-20 microm) limestone (CaCO3) in a high-pressure reactor, a macroemulsion is formed consisting of droplets of CO2 coated with a sheath of CaCO3 particles dispersed in water. The coated droplets are called globules. Depending on the globule diameter and the CaCO3 sheath thickness, the globules sink to the bot...

Bubble Nucleation in Superheated Liquid-Liquid Emulsions

An investigation of the process by which bubbles form in superheated liquid-liquid emulsions is reported. A theoretical model for the rate of bubble nucleation is developed that is valid for any binary liquid system. Because of the interesting "microexplosion" phenomenon postulated to occur during combustion of fuel/water emulsions, special attention is focused on hydrocarbon/ water/surfactant ...
